You Aren’t Looking for a "Fixed" Child.

Your Looking for a Supported One.

Neurodiversity-Affirming Therapy in Pflugerville and Austin for the bright, sensitive, and "outside-the-box" kids who don't fit the standard mold.

A woman comforts a teenage boy who has crossed his arms and appears upset, sitting together on a sofa in a cozy living room.

Is This Your Family’s Reality?

At Pflugerville Counseling Center (PCC), we know that by the time many parents find us, they are exhausted. You’ve likely tried the reward charts, the time-outs, and the "behavioral" advice that felt like you were fighting your child’s nature.

Does your child:

  • Melt down the moment they get home from a long day of "masking" at school?

  • Get labeled as "defiant" when you know they are actually overwhelmed or overstimulated?

  • Struggle with Executive Functioning or "following directions" despite being incredibly bright?

  • Feel like a "problem to be solved" rather than a kid to be celebrated?

A Different Way to Support Your Child

Traditional therapy often focuses on compliance. We focus on connection.

The Traditional Approach (What you’ve seen)

  • The Focus: Reducing "behaviors" to make the child appear more neurotypical.

  • The Method: Compliance-based models (rewards and consequences).

  • The Goal: Training a child to "fit in" even if it causes internal distress.

Our Affirming Approach (What your child needs)

  • The Focus: Understanding the brain-body connection and sensory safety.

  • The Method: Co-regulation and Collaborative Proactive Solutions.

  • The Goal: Building self-advocacy, confidence, and a world that fits your child.

Specialized Care for Neurodivergent Families

Autism & ADHD-Affirming Therapy

We provide a space where "stimming" is welcome, eye contact is optional, and your child’s special interests are used as the bridge to connection. We are an ADHD-affirming practice serving Pflugerville and the greater Austin area.

______________

PDA-Informed Support (Pathological Demand Avoidance)

For children with a "profile of autonomy," traditional parenting and therapy often backfire. We specialize in PDA-informed care to help reduce family conflict and build trust.

______________

Unmasking & Burnout Recovery

Many neurodivergent kids (and parents!) are in a state of chronic burnout from trying to act neurotypical. We help your child unlearn "masking" and reclaim their energy.

Frequently Asked Questions about Neurodiversity-Affirming Therapy

  • No. We are a non-ABA practice and work from a social model of disability. This means we focus on supporting an individual’s needs rather than trying to change who they are. While ABA often emphasizes skill development and behavior management, our approach centers on mental, emotional, and relational well-being.

  • Both! We have a sensory-friendly office in Pflugerville, TX and offer online therapy for families across Austin, Round Rock, and all of Texas.

  • Many of the parents we work with are neurodivergent themselves! We provide specific parenting support that moves away from "standard" advice and focuses on what actually works for your unique family dynamic.

Real Support, From People Who Get It

We know what it’s like to question if you’re “too much” or “not enough”—and we know the relief of finally being seen, not managed. If you’re ready for therapy that embraces your wiring instead of working against it, we’d love to meet you. We offer in-person sessions in Pflugerville and online therapy across Texas.
